Finding “Pamper Me” Time
Women are excellent multi-taskers. We can cook you dinner, wash clothes, hold a conference call and change diapers all at the same time! But being a great multi-tasker can also have it’s downside. Sometimes, we are so busy with taking care of others that we often neglect to find time to take care of ourselves. The reality is, we can’t effectively take care of anyone or anything else until we FIRST take care of ourselves. So, what’s the best way to find “pamper me” time?
1.Start fresh in the morning: If you have to go to bed a little earlier the night before, do it. It is soo worth it. Just 15 minutes of quiet time in the morning can do you a world of difference. Quiet time means no telephone, no television, no music, no nothing. If you have to lock yourself in the the bathroom or closet to find quiet time, go there. You have to make yourself a priority.
2. Schedule it in your day: I am a planner person. Even though I have TWO iPhones, I still like to write things down in my planner and scratch them off them when the task is completed. You can do the same thing with your own schedule when it comes to “me” time. You make appointments for everything else: your hair stylist, manicures and pedicures. Why not do the same thing for your peace of mind? If you anticipate a long day at work on Monday, make an appointment with yourself afterwards that reads “take 20 minutes to decompress or re-charge my batteries”.
3. Do what you can do: I know, I get it. Sometimes you don’t have 15 or 20 minutes to spare. Well, do what you can. If you have 5 minutes to squeeze in during the morning: relish in a hot cup of coffee, breathe deeply and meditate on a happy thought or listen to a couple of songs from your favorite iPod playlist. If you have a half hour to spare, treat yourself to a massage or a long walk in the sun. The key is to DO SOMETHING to pamper yourself. If you don’t, no one else will.
