Do you know the skin you’re in?

Green. Organic. All Natural.  We’ve seen these labels everywhere…from our food to our shampoos.  They are used so often that I think we’ve just become numb to them.  The focus on clean eating has caused millions of people to try juicing, buy the Nutri-Bullet, even to go vegan.  While taking charge of our diets and what we put into our bodies is important, we must not overlook WHAT we are putting on our bodies as well.

There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don’t have any safety data. This is particularly true of those products used in the skin care and beauty industry. Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in personal care products have safety data. What’s worse is the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful (lead, formaldehyde, and phthalates) in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids every single day, day after day.

I challenge you to read the labels on your skin and hair care products.  After you get past the first couple of long words, take a moment and research them.  I’m sure you will be surprised at what you may find out.

BusyBellas is partnering with a new company committed to putting safe products into the hands of everyone.  The company is called Beautycounter and its banned more than 1,500 ingredients setting a new health and safety standard.

  1. L. Campbell says :

We must be more mindful and proactive about the options we have to do what is best for our adult bodies and what expose to the bodies of our children, internally and externally. While working in research and development within the healthcare industry, I have witnessed a steady campaign to lead consumers away from any holistic or “organic” approach to healing. Even as we are embracing the “natural” haircare renaissance movement, companies are adding chemicals to what is marketed as an “all natural” product. Be mindful and read the labels. Like my grandmother said, ” If you can’t pronounce it, its not from the earth!”
